Can you send me some scholarly articles on hispanic cultures in america, how they influence us and how they are changing? I tried and I am not coming
You might have better luck with some "browsing" as opposed to searching.
a). Head to our database menu at: http://libguides.css.edu/az.php
b). From the "our most popular databases" box choose Expanded Academic ASAP.
c). Once you have logged on to EAA, you will see a button for "subject guide search." Click on it.
d). Type in "Hispanic" ... the computer will start matching terms. Select "Hispanic Americans." Now click on the square search icon to the right of the search box.
e). This will bring to you a screen which gives you the heading of "Hispanic Americans." Under it, though, is a link for "subdivisions." You can now browse these to find an area of interest, say "marketing to" or "demographic aspects." This will help you avoid the medical articles. Once you choose a subdivision, you can then limit the results. From the left hand column chose "peer-reviewed" which is a synonymous term for "scholarly article."
A couple thing to keep in mind.
You can use this browse function for other terms, such as "Hispanic women"
Journals tend to be very specific. I found one about the influennces that make Hispanic women run for judicial office.
You may need to infer from the title and the abstract the American culture is being influenced, such as from this -
We play too: Latina integration through soccer in the "New South" Author(s): Paul Cuadros Source: Southeastern Geographer. 51.2 (Summer 2011): p227.
The migration of Latino immigrants to the rural South is now well documented. The creation of cultural spaces for immigrants and their families on soccer fields is flourishing throughout the region. These fields, long a bastion of male leagues and games focused on men, are now being integrated by Latina women with their own teams and leagues. This field note provides the personal perspective of three young female soccer players as they are pulled between the traditional expectations for women in their culture and their desire to be athletic and competitive in sports. The stories of the women reveal that Latinas are integrating into the society and challenging norms as well as developing a new Latina identity …
Academic Search Premier is also another good place. When you login, along the top is a "subject term" link which will allow you to browse in a way similar to Expanded Academic ASAP.
Hope this gets you on track.
