How do I cite the following websites: http://obamacarefacts.com/affordablecareact-summary/ 2.

I am curious how to cite these websites. My instructor told me my formatting was off. I was told the name of the organization could be use in place of the author; however, these websites are not organizations.

Answer

When you create a citation you need to first identify what format the information is presented in, then find the “formula” for that information in the appropriate style, and then plug the information from your information into the appropriate slot of the formula.

Your first two items are webpages. This is a basic format in APA – author | date | title | URL

The parts of your first citation are –

Author – ObamaCareFacts.com

This is an example of the a corporate author, an organization not an individual, creating the information. In this case the author and the URL are the same. If you follow the link for “contact us now” it leads to a section titled “about” that reveals the name of the organization/author.

Date – there is no date listed, so you acknowledge that with this standard notation (n.d.) for “no date.”

Title – Affordable Care Act summary.

URL - http://obamacarefacts.com/affordablecareact-summary/

Now that you have the pieces, you string them together –

ObamaCareFacts.com. (n.d.). Affordable Care Act summary. Retrieved from http://obamacarefacts.com/affordablecareact-summary/

Your second source seems to be the same URL as the first.

This is the formula from p. 14 of the APA Style Guide to Electronic Resources, 6th edition.

8. Newsletter article, no author

Six sites meet for comprehensive anti-gang initiative conference. (2006, November/

December). OJJDP News @ a Glance. Retrieved from http://www.ncjrs.gov

/html/ojjdp/news_at_glance/216684/topstory.html

Now you plug in your pieces into the formula –

Title - A timeline of the Affordable Care Act

Date – November 2, 2013

Newspaper title -  The Washington Post

URL - https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2013/11/02/76b6f9b6-43f9-11e3-a751-f032898f2dbc_story.html?utm_term=.2f8aa868d8be

And then you string it all together –

A timeline of the Affordable Care Act. (2013, November 2). The Washington Post. Retrieved from https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2013/11/02/76b6f9b6-43f9-11e3-a751-f032898f2dbc_story.html?utm_term=.2f8aa868d8be

Make sure double space and use proper indenting. I cannot recreate it with this software.
