How do I cite multiple pages from same publication?
I have used the same book and cited many different pages. I only list the book once I the ref page, right? How do I format the in-text citations?
Answer
First, I will make the assumption that you need help with APA style (American Psychological Association)?
You are correct that you only need to cite the book once in your works cited (reference) list, no matter how many times you cite it. The "bad news" is that there are no short cuts with your in-texts citations.
Each time you directly quote from the book you would will need to create in an in-text citation that includes the author, date, and page number(s).
White warns of the danger of teaching an Australian Shepherd to sit upright on its back legs "they might sit next to your chair and watch you all through dinner" (White, 2016, p. 245).
If you discuss a concept in a book over the course of a paragraph, with no direct quotes, then you can usually just put one in-text reference at the end of the paragraph.
The extreme intelligence & sensitivity of the Australian Shepherd is its Achilles' heel. Severe weather, especially thunderstorms, can trigger such behavior as shaking, trembling, drooling, big round eyes, and in extreme cases hiding in a teenage girl's closet and peeing on her shoe collection (White, 2016).
