How do i cite a quotation that is up to (40 ) fourty words?

Answer

What you are looking for is how to cite a "block quote." Page 92 of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition, gives these directions: "Do not use quotation marks to enclose block quotations. Do use double quotation marks to enclose any quoted material within a block quotation."

You block quote should be indented one inch. Here is an example.

White (2012) states this:

Recent attempts by breeders to turn the Australian Shepherd into an AKC show dog have created an overly large, overly groomed, boring canine. Breed standards for the Aussie should never be about looks, but the intense intelligence and desire to please that makes this dog a joy to work with. An Aussie should look a bit insane, and some greasy ear hair is a small price to pay for the greatest herding dog ever bred. (p. 27)
