How do you cite a youtube video in APA style?

The video also has a CNN logo in the corner, does that need to be taken into consideration when citing it? Here is the link if that helps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQBcC2B8ZKo&feature=player_embedded

Answer

This is the example The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.) provides for a video (p. 209).

American Psychological Association. (Producer).  (2000). Responding therapeutically to patient expressions of sexual attraction. [DVD]. Available from http://www.apa.org/videos/

So, the basic form looks like this … Author. Creative role. Title. Format. URL.

Let’s apply this to your YouTube video.

Author – while Ted Rowland is doing the reporting, it seems to make more sense to credit CNN. The reader would then understand it is a news story.

Creative role. Since we have decided to go with CNN, then is makes sense to follow the model of listing CNN as the producer.

Date – easy enough: June 14th, 2007 (the date it was uploaded.)

Title  - 911  call From a hospital ER

Format – I think we could go with [YouTube video].

And the URL - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQBcC2B8ZKo&feature=player_embedded

Now, if we put this all together, it should look like –

CNN. (Producer). (2007, June 14). 911 call from hospital ER. [YouTube video]. Available from:

     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQBcC2B8ZKo&feature=player_embedded

I think this should work. The reader knows you viewed a CNN piece found on YouTube and they have the URL in order to be able to watch it if need be.

Good luck with your paper and the rest of the semester.
