When doing an interview, do you cite every part of the interview?

Answer

I am going to assume that you are wishing to cite the interview in the APA style. It is different though if you are using MLA, so please email back if you are using MLA and I can tell you how to cite an interview in this format (or else click here for more information: http://libguides.css.edu/content.php?pid=61895&sid=788146)

Emails, nonarchived discussion groups, letters, memos, telephone conversations, lectures, and personal interviews are considered personal communications in APA. This type of communication can be difficult to provide recoverable data; therefore, these types of communication are not included in the Reference list. Cite personal communications within the body of your paper only. Click here to see more information and examples: http://libguides.css.edu/content.php?pid=61826&sid=454614

So basically quote or paraphrase whatever parts from the interview work for your paper and then in parentheses after the quote or paraphrase give the name of the person interviewed, the words personal communication and the date of the interview. You will not list the interview in your reference list.

Hope this helps - again email back if you have more questions.

Good luck!
