How do I cite a pamphlet/brochure? I have one from NASW addressing careers in SW.

I picked up the brochure at school. It is entitled CHOICES Careers in Social Work and in the back it does reference NASW Press but that's it.
Thanks a million!

Answer

I looked at all the reference formats in the APA handbook and there is none listed for a pamphlet. Therefore, we will need to be a bit creative. I would think of a pamphlet as a "monograph," or book (published just once) as opposed to a periocial, or serial, which is published on a regular basis. On p. 205 of The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition, citing "gray literature" is mentioned, and this might be where your pamphlet falls under.

Here are the parts you need (and have already) ...

1.  Author: National Social Work Assocation.

2. Date: check the pamphlet. if you can't find a date, use (n.d.).

3.  Title: Choices: Careers in social work.

4. Format: We'll be a little creative here to help the reader to understand what you are citing - [Pamphlet].

5.  Place of publication (location): Hopefully listed on the pamphlet. If not, I would do a simple Internet search and find the city the NASW is based in.

6. Publisher: Since the publisher is the same as the author, you can use this:  Author.

Here it is strung together ...

National Social Work Association. (n.d.). Choices: Careers in social work [Pamphlet]. Location: Author.

Good luck.
