How do I do in-text citation on an informal reflection paper?

We will be using APA format in the class. Instructions were to use an in text citation to note author date and page.

Answer

Even if you are writing an "informal reflection paper," citations are still formal, and so would be the in-text or parenthetical reference.

If you quote a source you will then need to add these items to your paper.

a). A citation for the source, book, article etc. - you can find examples of the different citation formats on the Library's APA Guide. Use the reference format tab.

b). If you sum up/recap an idea presented by an author, then your parenthetical reference needs two items - author's name & the date.

c).  If you directly quote the author, then your parenthetical reference needs three things - author's name, date, and the page number of the quote.

Depending on you write your paper affects how the parenthetical reference might look. Use the Library's APA guide for examples of different types of parenthetical references.

Good luck with your paper.
