How do I cite a speech in APA format that I have retrieved from a website?

I am attempting to cite the Truman Doctrine from this website in APA and cannot figure out how to do it. http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/harrystrumantrumandoctrine.html

Answer

APA (for once!) keeps it simple.

This, from p. 27 of the APA Style Guide to Electronic Resources, 6th edition -

53. Speech recording

King, M. L., Jr. (1963, August 28). I have a dream [Audio file]. Retrieved from

     http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkihaveadream.htm

So, your citation would look like this -

Truman, Harry S. (1947, March 12). The Truman Doctrine [Audio file]. Retrieved

     from http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/harrystrumantrumandoctrine.html

There could be some debate on whether or not doctrine is capitalized. I checked in The Encyclopedia of the Cold War [ABC-Clio, 2008], and it is referred to as the "Truman Doctrine" and not the "Truman doctrine" so the above would be correct.

Good luck with the rest of the semester.
